Extraction 3-D de structures industrielles sur des images RAMSES haute résolution par radargrammétrie

Abstract : The purpose of this work is to build a radargrammetric chain leading to the 3-D structures from high resolution SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) images. High resolution 3D maps obtained by SAR imaging are interesting because of their all-weather character. The data we use, are acquired by the experimental airborne RAMSES sensor of ONERA and represent industrial areas. These images contain a lot of strong echoes and structure roofs are not always sharply marked. These phenomena make difficult the image interpretation and unsuitable the classical methods of 3-D extraction. Then we propose a radiometric and geometrical analysis of the data. This analysis leads to an adapted algorithmic chain that aims at recovering cylindrical structures and parallelepipeds, such as tanks and rectangular buildings. In the first part concerning the analysis, we present the simplified radar image interpretation on structures and study the statistics of amplitude images. The opportunity of high resolution radargrammetry is also checked theoretically then experimentally. The second part deals with the radargrammetric chain. Our approach consists into two main steps: structure extraction from strong echoes then 3D estimation. The structure extraction represents an important part in this work. We propose a method including the recognition of the best circular or rectangular pattern including the strong structure by an area-based criterion optimization. We compare it with more classical methods of image processing and study several criteria and stochastic optimization techniques. Then, we present a method for the computation of ground altitudes between structures and their height. The results show the pertinence of our approach when the structure is well detected and in the best case where a roof echo is detectable.
