Travail théâtral: travail, implication et culture au Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord

Abstract : Ethnographic study of the Bouffes du Nord theatre (1975-2005) based on the analysis of the different occupational groups involved in the theatre operations and focusing on cooperation modes in drama work. The research was conducted by means of direct observation and interviews within an historical frame. Focusing on its architecture, localization, operating policy, conventions, and role in the French theatre community tradition the aesthetics of the place is drawn out. Group definitions rely on their role in the organization. Group analysis is based on the individuals' socio-demographic data, careers and mobility. The description of the tasks carried out, of the task assignment modes, the conflicts and their resolution enables to sketch the division of labor organized in the theatre. Finally, by resorting to the mechanisms of "game" and "side bets" the moving forces to commitment are analyzed and their ties to status improvement enhanced.
