Internal field and external field of wind instruments
Résumé
This thesis is a "Doctorat d'Etat ès Sciences physiques". The topic is the relationship between the internal and the external ffield. For woodwind instruments, the resonator of a wind instruments in a tube with thoneholes while for brass instruments, the resonator includes a bell. Visco-thermal effects are considered in a horn equation which is modified. The shape of the resonator is also considered, and a comparison between experiment and theory is done. Transfer functions between internal and external field are calculated. The effect of coupling through evanescent modes is studied for horns of finite length and more generally for finite transmission lines.
