CONTRIBUTION OF LOGGING TO THE ELECTROFACIO-SEQUENTIAL RECONSTITUTION OF CRETACIAN DEPOSITS: PALEOENVIRONMENT AND EUSTATISM OF THE IVOIRIAN BASIN.

APPORT DES DIAGRAPHIES A LA RECONSTITUTION ELECTROFACIO-SEQUENTIELLE DES DEPOTS CRETACES : PALEOENVIRONNEMENT ET EUSTATISME DU BASSIN IVOIRIEN.

Résumé

In this report, a facio-sequential study was carried out on cretaceous formations of the ivorian offshore basin (offshore between Grand-Lahou and Grand-Bassam). This approach was based on log, biostratigraphic and lithological data. It was carried out on 6 drill holes (KAF-1, KAF-2, KAF-3, KAF-4, KAF-5 and KAF-6) in order to reconstruct the lithological facies from Strater 5 software. The correlations Carried out by applying the electro-sequence cutting on these soundings made it possible to reconstitute the paleoenvironments of this part of the ivorian basin. The lithostratigraphic characterization from the drill cuttings coupled to the log data allowed to recognize 6 lithological facies (argillites, silty argillites, sandstones, limestones, marls and siltites) divided into 5 formations: E, D, C, B and A each containing one to three units. During the Cretaceous period, sedimentation is marked by a large sandy clay-sandstone discharge, with low carbonate production. Late Cretaceous thin deposits may be due to erosion or low subsidence. The correlation profile shows frequent and wide variations of the electrofacies, from West to East and from North to South. From the logs (GR, TD, RhoB and Nphi), the electro-sequential stratigraphy gave an idea of coastal migrations and discontinuities. We have identified 10 electros sequences in the Albian, 6 in the Cenomanian except in the KAF-2 and KAF-3 Wells. The Turonian and the Lower Senonian, marked by important periods of erosion, each have 4 electro-sequences unequally distributed in the soundings. The Campanian and the Maastrichtian each have 5 electro-sequences. Several erosive surfaces have been identified between the Lower Senonian and the Maastrichtian (angular discordance). Deposit environments identified from log correlations are of three types. The continental environment is present at the base of the Lower Cretaceous. The inland marine environment characterizes the terminal Albian and some sequences of the Upper Cretaceous. Medium to outer marine environments characterize some Upper Cretaceous electro-sequences.
