Résumé

Concentrated Solar Thermodynamic Power (CSTP) technologies are among the most promising technologies for energy transition. Among these, Tower Solar Power Plants (TSPPs) are thoses that could guarantee a high electricity production despite periods without sun. This thanks to their thermal energy storage module. In addition, new research line is growing on the use of TSPPs for biofuel production. The limitations of this technology are related to the low solar/electric conversion efficiencies and the relatively high investment cost. One of the ways to improve the efficiency of TSPPs consists in optimizing the thermal-radiative properties of the receiver, which converts the incident concentrated solar flux into available thermal energy. Receivers are made of a highly absorbent material such as, among others, silicon carbide (SiC) thanks to its high absorptivity in the visible range, good mechanical strength, and high corrosion resistance at high temperatures (>1000°C). Nevertheless, SiC shows a high emissivity in the infrared range which causes significant radiative losses. In this thesis, we studied the impact of chemical doping and titanium carbide inclusion on the thermal radiative properties of two SiC crystallographic structures (3C and 6H). To conduct these studies, we used molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. A simulation technique which allows the evaluation of macroscopic quantities starting from microscopic description of the positions, velocities and accelerations of the atoms. The quantities evaluated by MD were then used as input data in a nodal model code for estimating the performance of TSPP. In particular, we have shown that 6H SiC structure provides better solar/thermal conversion efficiency than 3C SiC structure and that this is true also for the case of porous volumetric receivers compared to surface receivers.
