Transferts et Stockages Magmatiques au Piton de la Fournaise

Abstract : As for other intraplate basaltic volcanoes, Piton de la Fournaise volcano sis- micity occurs without any tectonic regional control. The eruptive processes along internal active structures trigger volcano-tectonic earthquakes which are sometimes identical. This seismic activity, characterized by identical waveforms is produced by the same source and has been used to study Piton de la Fournaise's structures and their behaviour during the 2000 to 2008 time period. Earthquakes recorded by the seismic network of the Piton de la Fournaise Volcano Observatory with identical wa- veforms have been merged in clusters. Differential travel times have been measured in each cluster allowing double difference relocation of hypocenters and synthetic focal mechanism determinations. Focal mechanisms and hypocenters are then used to extract orientations of coseismic slips and fault plans. Seismogenic areas have been mapped and their behaviour during eruptions's preparation leads us to pro- pose a descriptive model of their associated intrusive processes. Each part of this model has been numerically modeled with a finite elements method. The discussion of numerical models compared to seismological results helps us to build a realistic model of intrusive phenomenon that accounts for lateral eruptions. The study from 2000 to 2008 has been limited to hand picked earthquake catalog. Thus, to complete our database, our seismicity analysis method has been asociated to a detection and estimation of P and S phases arrival times. That allows us to propose a real time application for volcano's monitoring.
