Abstract : The transfer of thin films, flexible and frail, onto the spherical surface of an ophthalmic lens is a real challenge to allow a disruptive concept in the active ophthalmic optic. To take the advantage of a collective fabrication, the pre-functionalized film has to be made on a plane substrate before its transfer on the lens. In order to preserve the integrity of the optical function, the transfer should minimize the deformation, the mechanical stress, and the thermoforming temperature. In this research work, we propose a principle of transfer disassociating the step of thermoforming by blowing of the step of sticking and a specific tool has been designed to develop the process as described. The optimization of the parameters has been declined in two different modes: the first one for full lenses and the second for the edged lenses. To predict and/or interpret the experimental comportments obtained with the two modes, we have made simulation with the finite element method after having characterized thermo-mechanical properties of the PET film which is the armature of the functional optical film. The second mode, in spite of a manufacturing process more complex, gives interesting results and seems to answer the highest requirements of this study.
