Développement et utilisation d'échantillonneurs passifs de type DGT pour la surveillance de la qualité de la ressource en eau vis-à-vis des micropolluants

Abstract : Passive sampling by DGT (Diffusive Gradient in Thin films) of metals/metalloids has been widely studied for more than 25 years and has recently been extended to organic micropollutants. Due to its many advantages (in situ preconcentration, integration of temporal variations, simple quantification model weakly impacted by environmental conditions), this tool appears promising to complete the water resource monitoring. However, its implementation into monitoring networks has not yet been carried out. Various limitations to this implementation have been studied during this thesis, such as problems of sensitivity or identification of the sampled fraction. The DGT sensitivity may be limited for micropollutants present at low concentrations. The study of a DGT with a larger exposure area revealed that this device improves the monitoring of neutral pesticides and metabolites in a low contaminated context while still respecting the quantification model. A specific work on metals/metalloids has shown that the sensitivity of the technique can also be altered by an intrinsic contamination of the devices. Studying and limiting this contamination then appear to be an essential step when using DGT in monitoring networks. Furthermore, this work has shown that to ensure reliable and representative sampling of the contamination of elements with complex speciation such as aluminum, the deployment strategy must be adapted to each site. This step complicates the use of DGT on a measurement network scale because it requires a good knowledge of the sampling sites and of the chemistry of the elements. In addition, the results are still difficult to interpret due to a lack of information on the nature of the sampled fraction and cannot be compared with current references, which limits the use of DGT in a regulatory framework.
