Développement d'un laser verre codopé erbium et ytterbium compact à sécurité oculaire pour des applications de télémétrie.

Abstract : Their high efficiency and directivity make laser optical sources extremely harmful to the human eye. However there is a spectral bandwidth extending from 1.5 to 1.55 µm where the damage threshold of the eye is higher and where the risks are less important. This band width is said to be " eye-safe ". A solid state laser pumped by laser diode emitting in this spectral band should find many applications in the fields of obstacle detection and ranging. This work therefore aims to study theoretically and validate experimentally an eye-safe laser pumped by high-power laser diode using an erbium and ytterbium co-doped glass. This laser run continuously and mechanically triggered. In continous a power of 100 mW with a perfect Gaussian beam was obtained for an absorbed pump power of 650 mW. In Q-switch mode triggered by insertion in the cavity of a rotating disk, we obtained a peak power of 120W on a 35 ns pulse width at half maximum and in Q-switch mode triggered by insertion of a tuning fork in the cavity, we obtained a peak power of 50W on a 60 ns pulse width at half maximum. The interesting results obtained in Q-switch mode have enabled us to achieve an eye-safe rangefinder.
