Résistances du pommier à la tavelure et au feu bactérien : interactions entre les résistances génétiques et induites par les SDP

Abstract : Diversifying crop protection methods is a main challenge to reduce the use of pesticides. Deploying genetically resistant varieties and spraying plant resistances inducer (PRI) are two promising alternative protection methods, but, individually, they are often quickly overcome or have partial and variable efficacy. The combined use of these two types of resistance has been considered for going beyond such limitations and developping an integrated strategy for sustainable protection. Apple is one of the most treated crops, because most of commercial varieties are susceptible to several diseases.This study targeted two major diseases: apple scab (Venturia inaequalis) and fire blight (Erwinia amylovora). An F1 progeny segregating for resistance QTLs and a collection of old varieties were used. Four PRI products were tested but more particularly Acibenzolar-S-Methyl, asalicylic acid analogue.The complementarity of genetic and induced resistances was first explored by phenotypic and genetic approaches in order to understand their interaction pattern and the influencing factors. In addition, the molecular mechanisms involved in both resistances have been explored through transcriptional and metabolomic approaches. The combination of both resistances is complementary and very effective for the protection of apple, but it does not exhibit a strong modulation of QTL effects. Salicylic and jasmonic acids signaling, flavonoids and fatty acids seem to play a role in these resistances. The gained results open leads for the elaboration of conceptual and mechanistic models describing the interactions between genetic and PRI-induced resistances.
