Social network and activity space : socio-spatial dynamic and emotionnal well-being among older adults
This thesis explores how seniors' social relationships fit into their living environments, and how this spatial distribution of social life explains their emotional well-being. The study population consists of 183 non-institutionalized older adults aged 79 years, living in Quebec, Canada. The first part presents the development of a map-based tool to identify the people met in the different locations. I then represented collected data as networks, which allowed the identification of certain properties. Specifically, some patterns highlight the concentration of older adults' social lives in a limited number of locations, as well as a differential spatial distribution of categories of social relationships specifically associated with emotional well-being. These results, along with the methods developed in this thesis, can support the study of the influence of living environments on the health and well-being of older adults.
