Nanoparticules de silice fonctionnelles à base de cluster d'éléments de transition

Abstract : This thesis is dedicated to the fabrication of functional silica nanoparticles. They exhibit luminescent, magnetic and/or plasmonic properties and find applications in the field of biotechnologies. The novel character of these nanoparticles relies on the use of octahedral metal atom clusters as luminophores. They have been embedded in silica nanoparticles mainly through a water-in-oil microemulsion process. This technique is particularly well designed for the synthesis of nanoparticles below 50 nm in diameter and exhibiting complex architectures. The cluster@SiO₂ nanoparticles and their properties have been deeply investigated. The clusters have also been associated with ZnO nanocrystals leading to materials with tunable visible emission properties. In order to create a system that could simultaneously be excited and emit in the near infrared, the clusters have been associated with NaYF₄:Er/Yb nanocrystals showing photon upconversion properties. Bifunctional nanoparticules with luminescent and magnetic properties have been achieved by the association of clusters with γ-Fe₂O₃ nanocrystals. Finally, the potential of the clusters as a reducing agent for the patterning of cluster@SiO₂ nanoparticles with gold or silver nanocrystals has been demonstrated. Besides this, the nanotoxicity of the clusters on rapeseed plants has been showed as well as the effective protection of the silica layer against their toxic effects.
